Liquid Kicks Top Coats Technical Data Sheet

LK Top Coats are a premium water-based hybrid acrylic polyurethane resin designed for use on leather and canvas.?All products are manufactured in-house by LK Top Coats under very strict quality control.

Preparation

Use a clean, lint-free microfiber?cloth?dampened with?the Essential Deglazer?to clean only the leather surface you want to paint.?Do not over-clean the surface.?You should feel the surface change from smooth to tacky as you clean it.?As soon as the feeling changes, it has been sufficiently cleaned.?Let the surface rest for 10 to 20 minutes to allow solvents to escape.?Do not force drying.?Remove any dust or dirt with a clean, dry synthetic paintbrush.

Apply paint

Work in light coats until the color has reached the right tone.?Let each coat dry before moving on to the next coat.?Once all the color has been applied, let it dry thoroughly.?This can of course be done by leaving it on for 24 hours or by lending a hand with a hairdryer or hot air gun with a maximum temperature of 175 degrees Celsius.?Allow the surface to cool completely before applying the LK Top Coats.

Application of LK Top Coat

LK Top Coats finishers can be applied with a brush in 2 thin coats, but the best way to apply is with an airbrush with a tip size between 0.2 mm ? 0.7 mm and an air pressure between 25 psi ? 35 psi.
Spray the topcoat directly on the surface at a distance between 10 and 15 cm with an airbrush, or between 10 and 20 cm with a spray gun.?Apply one coat in even coats by working side to side and top to bottom overlapping each previous stroke to create medium wet coats.?Let the top coat dry before moving on to the next coat.

To dry

LK Top Coat finishers are best dried with a hairdryer or heat gun with a temperature of maximum 175 degrees Celsius.?Air drying takes 35 to 50 minutes, depending on the ambient temperature and humidity.?Drying with a hair dryer or hot air gun should not exceed 10 minutes.
LK Top Coats are ready to use after complete drying, but full chemical resistance and scratch resistance is only achieved after 12 hours of curing at normal room temperature of 21 degrees Celsius.

Processing time

Once the product has been poured into an outdoor container such as an airbrush cup or mixing cup, it will begin curing.?A test showed that in a 236ml airbrush cup at 21 degrees Celsius the product was usable for 2 hours before performance was affected.

In a similar test in a 500 ml beaker, the product was usable for 6 hours. To extend shelf life, keep unused portions covered with a cap or lid. The shelf life of unopened bottles of LK Top Coat has been proven to be longer than 1 year under normal circumstances.

Coverage

One 59 ml bottle is suitable for more than 15 pairs of leather shoes or 1 large leather car seat. Coverage on canvas depends on the type of canvas and its size.

Storage

Store between 10 and 25 degrees Celsius and away from prolonged exposure to direct sunlight to prevent oxidation.?Prolonged exposure to temperatures above 50 degrees Celsius and below 0 degrees Celsius can result in decreased product performance.?Keep the lid closed when not in use to prevent it from drying out.

Tidy

Immediately clean all tools with water, acetone or the Essential Deglazer.?Dry topcoats require aggressive solvents such as MEK or volatile paint strippers for cleaning.?Immediately after use, remove all traces of the finisher from the airbrush or spray gun to prevent the product from drying out in the airbrush and causing a hard to remove clog!?Rinse until the cleaner no longer fogs off the top coat.
